Green Party Presidential and Vice Presidential Nominees Dr. Jill Stein and Dr. Butch Ware appeared together on a September 12 airing of the Breakfast Club. The radio show which is owned by IHeartMedia is a morning talk show that typically covers celebrity gossip, politics, and dating topics. Stein and Ware were joined by hosts DJ Envy, Charlamagne, and recurring guest, Angela Rye.
To put it plainly, Angela Rye is a mouthpiece of the Democratic Party establishment. Most prominently known as a former CNN political commentator she at one time worked for Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) as Senior Advisor and Counsel to the House Committee on Homeland Security. Shortly after that she became Executive Director and General Counsel to the Congressional Black Caucus for the 112th Congress. She makes no effort to conceal her ties to the Democratic party as this information is readily available in her professional bio which is posted on her website.
At some points in the interview the line of questioning posed by Angela Rye was openly antagonistic and belittling to both the campaign and Green Party platform wholly. Rye at one point referred to the Green Party platform as a “wish list” that it promised “the sun, the moon, the stars, and the rain,” painting the picture that that the goals outlined in the Green Party platform are little more than a pie in the sky fantasy.
It would seem as though the producers of the Breakfast Club invited Jill Stein and Butch Ware onto the platform with the intention of gathering soundbites that could be used to diminish the Green Party campaign and reinforce that old colonial message, resistance is futile. Unfortunately for the Breakfast Club and their Democratic Party colluders, they put kittens in a den with two lions. The two Green Party candidates surgically deconstructed every question thrown at them; from the innocent, “does voting third party spoil the election“, to the dismissive, “you’ve tried eight times and failed, why keep trying“, to the outright zany, “are you a Russian operative.”
Not only were the rebuttals on point but both Dr. Stein and Dr. Ware were calm and collected, explaining their platform and worldview in a way that everyday people can understand and relate to. Though we cannot delude ourselves into believing that the capitalists will allow the people to usurp their power using strictly electoral means, The Green Party presidential campaign is a useful tool for exposing the propaganda of the US empire. Jill Stein and Butch Ware’s campaign gives a platform to ideas that get shut out of mainstream media like reparations, stopping US imperialism, and abolishing the electoral college.
