On May 30, 2020 approximately 3 months after a protest in downtown Raleigh over a man Javier Torres being shot by Raleigh Police Department. A crowd of about 1700 protesters took to the street to challenge the repeated murder of Black life by the bloody hands of the police.
Raleigh protesters gathered in solidarity to honor the life of George Floyd. George Floyd, 46, died after being arrested and smothered to death by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Footage of the arrest on 25 May shows a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Mr. Floyd’s neck while he was pinned to the floor. Over the allegation that Mr. Floyd used a fake $20 bill.
Chauvin has since been charged 3rddegree murder, technically accidental death, although Mr. Floyd was heard calling out for his mom and saying “I Can’t Breath!” Rebellions have sparked up around the country
to bring light and justice to the indifference shown towards Black Life by the ruling class.
Fascism runs rampant in the United States as the ruling class grasps at straws to maintain racial division and economic domination of the proletariat who are essential to prop up the appearance of a thriving economy for the cash hungry business that is America.
This is what Trump the bloated bigot said in a statement released on twitter in response to the rebellions in Minnesota, “These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”
Black people in Raleigh, NC showed up to demonstrate unity, pride, and the right to self determination and it was beautiful to witness. We saw joy and the determination to be seen and loved by the people who look like them and not acceptance by the people who judge them for expressing their rightful anger in a cathartic way. People partied in the street. We witnessed cars doing dounuts downtown Raleigh,
music blasting from cars, people talking and the vibe was about Black Unity, Love and Life by the peaceful crowd.
On the other hand, the violence and pig like behavior came from the Raleigh Police Department when they shot tear gas into a crowd of people from a parking deck onto the street.
